When to replace milk bottles?

It is time to change my toddler’s milk bottles again!

She has been using Tommee Tippee Bottles since she was 3 days old. Tommee Tippee , like many other plastic milk bottles, it is BPA (Chemical Bisphenol) free. As BPA may cause abnormal development in babies. However, after using for 4-6 months, you’re advised to replace them.

my girl is addicted to milk! she drinks about 6-8 times daily of 180ml. And after each feed, we will sterilize the bottle. Many people have advised us to stop sterilizing the bottles but since the sterilizer is out sitting in the kitchen, we might as well do 1 more step to ensure the bottles are clean! it is not difficult, just need to add water and put the bottles in the sterelizer, you’ll get steaming hot & clean bottles after a couple of minutes!

Since she drinks quite a bit daily, it is important to check on the bottles and nipples to ensure that the bottle is still in good shape, the nipples are not thinning/cracking as that may cause choking.

Bottles and nipples definitely do not come cheap but i will not be hesitant to replace them as she uses them daily! If you’re living in Singapore, do buy them when there’s a sale, the discount can go up to 30% off the normal price. Or if you’re travelling to UK, buy them there! i bought the limited edition Pink bottles at only 2.99pounds ( = S$6)

But, take a look for the picture below, Look at the condition of a 6 months old bottle vs a brand new bottle.

Look at the discolouration. I’m not sure if it is bad for health but i shall not take the risk of my toddler!

What should we do to the old milk bottles? I have friends who bring them to the Zoo where they’ll use these bottles to feed baby animals. 🙂 I’ve not tried it but would love to do so if we are going to the Zoo soon.
