Water bottle for the baby and now toddler…

This princess of mine started drinking from a straw cup when she was about 8 months old. I started her off with a MagMagCup by Pigeon. It was one of the best purchase ever! to the extend that i actually bought 2! both in Pink colour! Why is MagMagCup good? it has a handle for the baby to hold and it is spill-proof! so, the baby can swing and fling the bottle yet it will not spill 🙂

it is important to encourage baby/toddler to drink water as the weather here in Singapore is so warm. However, fully breastfed baby need not drink water. But but but, when i brought Cassadee to the Dentist the other day, he encourages babies to have a sip or 2 water to wash their mouth after milk feed. This will reduce chances of cavity according to him. So, i usually place a bottle of water in the living room, whenever i see the bottle, i will remind Cassadee to drink. In school, teachers will also get the kids to drink water every hour.

After awhile, we “upgraded” her to normal big kids’ bottles. I bought her a Sk*pH*p. Unfortunately the bottle cracked and broke on Day 2 when Cassadee accidentally dropped it! Her MagMag did not crack despite dropping so many times. I quickly ran to the mall and bought another bottle for her… This is recommended by out friend- Dr Brown’s  Straw Bottle…

Since then , she has been using this bottle at home, when we go out, she’ll be using her BROS straw bottle. But she loves biting the straw..the straw chipped after awhile.. and now that she’s older, she doesn’t want to drink from the straw, she wants to drink like an adult (straight from the bottle)… So, here’s her new bottle! from Tupperware…

I paid $18.90 (i think) for these 2, they come in a set. 1 Green and 1 purple..

Tupperware has been around for the longest time and they give out life time warranty. I’m excited and cant wait to let Cassadee try out her new bottle! i hope that she’ll like it as it is highly recommended by our friend who actually has 3 of the same bottles at home! 🙂

Will update after she uses it!
** this is not a paid post, i’m just sharing my personal experience

Char siew / BBQ Pork

**non halal post**

how can anyone not like char siew right? We (hubby and myself) love char siew but unfortunately, the char siew in singapore is not burnt enough to our liking and taste slightly different from what we get back home. So, the best will be to attempt to cook them at home. I’ve tried a couple of times but this time round, i purposely went to the butcher to buy some good meat. So, here’s how i marinate the meat ( i bought some good pork belly)

Marinate:

Lee Kum Kee Char Siew Sauce

Soy Sauce

Oyster Sauce

Dark Soya Sauce

Shao Xing Rice Wine

Pepper

Sesame Oil

Marinate overnight or at least a couple of hours…

Steps:

In a non-stick pan, heat up some oil then add in the meat. Slightly pan fry then add in all the seasoning from the marinate… Cook until the sauce thickens and the meat is cooked. I like them slightly burnt so i cooked a little longer and i actually turned up the fire/heat just 1-2 min before it was ready.

SLice them up and voila! succulent and delicious char siew

Dumpling/Sui Kow

This is a good way to trick your fussy eater into eating some greens/vegetables! 🙂 i usually try to put in lots of fresh greens as it is not only healthy, it makes the dumpling taste better too cos it gives it the extra crunch and sweetness.

Here’s my simplified version :

Mince pork

Fish Paste

Corriander

Carrot

Seasoning – Soy sauce, corn flour, pepper, shao xing rice wine, sesame oil

Extra ingrdients that you can add in – Prawns, diced mushrooms, water chestnut, spring onion, salted fish

Mix everything in and stir well. Then let it rest in the refridgerator for 15 minutes.

THis is how i usually do it, place the store bought dumpling skin on a clean chopping board/table top, place a full teaspoon of the mixture, then use some cornstarch water ( just mix cornstarch with some water) to stick the folds together…

This is how the end product should look like…

Cook them in boiling water, be ready to dish the dumplings out when start to float. You may use some ikan bilis/chicken soup base. Serving them with some Noodles will be a good option too. Here i’m serving my dumplings in Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup that i cooked using my slow cooker last night…

Deep fried yam cake

What do you do with the leftover yamcake? the easiest way is to cut them into smaller pieces and deep fry them! 🙂 sinful but super yummy! ** remember not to garnish the yam cake if you know you wont be able to finish them cos with the garnish, it will be harder to fry as they will get burnt easily. And also with garnish, it won’t keep as well in the freezer*

First cut the yam cake into pieces…

Deep fry/pan fry/airfry/oven bake…. your choice!

Tadaa!

Great snack when you have friends dropping by 🙂 Goes very well with Kampong Koh Chili sauce 🙂

Taro filling & Taro Milk

Easy peasy Yam Filling

540g Taro/Yam

110g Sugar

30g Butter

Steps:

Cut the yam into pieces, then steam them for 20 min.

PLace yam in the Thermomix Bowl, add in sugar and butter, mix well 1min/speed 6

Done! I’m using this for my snowskin mooncake. i actually weighed them each and roll into a ball, then refridgerate so i’ll only be moulding my mooncake later… also, i added some toasted melon seeds:)

After scrapping off the Taro Filling, there were still quite abit of filling stucked in the Thermomix bowl, so i just added in some milk, 4min/80degrees/speed 2 …. 🙂 A super rich and flavourful cup of Taro Milk ! I’m one happy girl with my Taro Milk!
